I'm just wondering.
The French Corsair thread has a photo of the disassembled F4U-7 at the USS Alabama and the post states it's being sent to California for the USS Midway.

Is this true?

I was under the impression that the Midway group had already acquired a stored ex-Honduran F4U-4 for display.
Could this mean that the -4 they acquired might be know available?
I understand it has a good spar.
Anybody have any info?
Jerry

It is out there already. The spar on the one
from Battleship Park is not good.

I think Jerry was saying that the spar on the -4 is good, not the -7. If they are getting a -7, then where is the -4 going? Also, it was noted in the French corsair thread that the -7 conversion now flying in France got its cowling from the Alamabama corsair. Did the Alabama corsair get a genuine AU-1 cowling in exchange? It sort of looks like it has one in the image from that thread, but I couldn't quite tell.

Cheers,
Richard

Yes Richard,
Thanks. I guess I wasn't as clear as I should've been!
It would be nice to see the -4 sold to someone willing and able to make it a flyer! :)

I would be better if Lori got out of this bad deal and got it back from the Midway people :!:

So is this thing just being parted out? If so, that really sucks.

No.... it's not being parted out, just disassembled for shipment. It is amazing how different the -7 wing structure is from the -1 though. Quite remarkable. A lot, lot beafier! I am surprised that all the skins have been removed though. Any more pictures of this -7 in disassembled state?

Cheers,
Richard
