Warbird Information Exchange

I like the idea of gatherings. I think it's great that people who operate similar airplanes can meet each other and discuss issues with regarding maintenance and operations. Also when the gatherings also attract the veterans, it really makes the event special.

I like the "Manufacturer Gathering" idea. Like Grumman, or North American, or Maybe a British Warbird Fly-in, or Axis fly-in. Those would be really unique.

Then again, I would like to attend any airshow that has an abundance of warbirds. Living in Vancouver leaves me with few options for warbird fly-ins. The largest one would probably be my museum. haha. The Abbotsford Airshow hardly offers a warbird flavour. The warbirds that do attend are hundreds of feet away from where you can see them, while there's always an over abundance of jets, jets, jets..... bleh.....

I want an airshow that has a lot. What's the closest "good" show?

I've never seen more than one Mustang in the same place. How sad is that. That being said, I concur with other opinions that say they are bored with the plane. But, since I've never been close enough to take a look at a Mustang I think if I were to get the chance to see one close up I could easily spend hours looking over the airframe, checking each detail, and chatting with the owner.

So... I'm getting a little long winded....

Let me finish with saying I want to go to an airshow with a wide variety of warbirds and hopefully two or more of each (wishfully thinking).

Sorry for your Mustang pain, last weekend we had six of them at the Pacific Coast Dream Machines Show and seven the previous weekend at the Minter Field "Warbirds in Action" show. You need to give one of our CA shows a visit. And here's a sampling from the summer Pacific Coast Air Museum show

The B-17s at Thunder Over Michigan in 2005 were spectacular, as were the B-25s last year. While not a huge Mustang fan, I still went to GML and do not regret it one bit. It was amazing to see all those 51s lined up on the tarmac, and the duo flight to the music of "Empire of the Sun" brought tears to my eyes. So yeah, I'm all for type gatherings.

Sadly enough (although some of you understand) - if there is a single P-47 at a show, I'll go out of my way to attend. Even though I work at EAA and am looking forward to AirVenture, Thunder Over Michigan is the show I am most looking forward to this year precisely because of the Thunderbolts in attendance.
