Hello all,

I must have been really bored today cause I just spent two hours thinking up ideas for a great war movie. More or less clowning around I guess but this is one movie I wish someone would make. I am not one for fancy movie stars....I am more into true actors who have some skill at lest. So the actors in this movie would be more or less some of the lessor known actors out there but I would like it better that way then to have crummy Brad Pitt or whoever like that to play in it. Anyway......my movie would be based on the book, "Doomed At The Start" by the great William Bartsch about USAAC Pilots in the Philippines, 1941-1942. So many people have forgotten these brave heroes its just my idea of remembering them and to try and tell the stories of those men. Hopefully this movie would be historically accurate with no crappy love story in it. That would take away what the movie was ment to be about. And the movie would consintrate on multipull stories.

Again I would pick actors that had alittle more respect for themselves not that they all don't but I picked ones from various war movies and ones that always stuck out in my mind.

Here is a small list of a few that I came up with that I think would be ideal.

-Tom Sizemore (a B-17 crew Chief aka. sarge) :P

-Willem Dafoe (Boyd Wagner)

-Sam Worthington from "The Great Raid" (as Collin Kelly)

-Jeremy Davies from Saving Private Ryan (as pilot Herb Ellis)

-Damian Lewis from Band of Brothers (as Lt. Joe Moore) 8)

-Temuera Morrison the Boundy Hunter from Star Wars(as Lt. Jesus Villamor PAAC 6 P.S.)

-Simon Rex from "Scary movie 3" (as Lt. Max Louk)

-Robert Hays (Clark field C.O.)

-Ralph Waite: John Walton from The Waltons (Commanding General of USAAC in the Philippines)

-James Franco (as Jack Dale)

Thats all I came up with so far. I think many of these would look the part for USAAC pilots. :D

So any comments? Good idea? Bad idea?

Also if you had an idea for a war movie...what would it be about?

Cheers,
Nathan

Cool idea. I started one before I did the book about Dad. It was a fictional piece based on a morph of my racing and Dad's wartime with most emphasis on Dad's wartime. Called it "Stardust". Here it sits...yada..yada..yada.

I had Leonardo DiCaprio playing Pop "Chalmers" Dennison, Ben Affleck as "Hollywood" (yeah they came up with the call sign in 1943) Frank Carter, Brad Pitt (sorry) as "Bo Bo" John Dinou, and Heath Ledger as "Doggie" Dick Dowiat. (ironic as Dick was KIA on his first mission in a Mustang in Italy).

Oh well, hopes of making those millions to buy warbirds probably rests more in my files (cranium) rather than reality...never the less, a cool topic.

Oh yeah, I still had to cast a really hot English nurse type that Dad fell in love with who lived in Calcutta. He got permission to take a P-38 and visit this young lady for the weekend. Upon departing he buzzed her home with a huge low level fly over and "victory" roll  . Any suggestions to play her? Just in case I can sell this story to Hollywood (Tom Hanks). I'd even cast him as the CO who wanted to boot all four from the Air Corps for retaliating after basic. Ah, you have to read the book "Fire from the Clouds" to get that story.

Have fun with this one Nathan.

I don't plan on selling the idea to Hollywood anytime soon. It was just something of fun I did to kill up some spare time.

Just curious what everyone else would like to see be made into a movie. Also I am curious what Jack Cook thinks about my idea. Thinking maybe he has met one of the real guys on my list. Just to make sure I picked a good actor to play the part.

Tally ho,
Nathan

How about George Clooney as the guy who gets shot down in the first scene, making a big smoking crater?

Not that I hate Clooney or anything...

I don't think he would be right for the role - great actor, but he doesn't look remotely Filipino (he's Maori from New Zealand) and he's too old - I suppose if it was filmed on location, there's a well regarded Filipino actor named Luis Manzano who looks more like Villamor and could play him well.

As for Boyd "Buzz" Wagner, James Farmer's book Celluloid Wings mentions a film about him that was to be titled Pittsburgh Pilot (!), but was abandoned before production started. Slated to play Wagner was Ronald Reagan.

Hattie Jaques. English actress who played the Nurse role in many great British films....you would really enjoy directing her in the "Just hop into the P-38, darling" sequences. 8)
