What's the current status of the Hayabusa Oscars that were big news a few years ago? There were reports of a batch of replicas being built, one of which had an accident during testing I believe. And then there was talk of three real ones that were recovered from jungles to be returned to the air from memory.

Have any made it into the air yet? If so, where are they based, who owns/operates them, and are there any photos out there?

Thanks for that news. It's good to see at least one of them is airworthy now.

I snagged these shots of the Oscar at Tillamook last December. Unfortunately my little digital camera had a hard time with how dark it is in most of the hangar.

I wish I could have been there when they flew it.

Here's a few photos of the Oscar taken in December of 2006 not long after it arrived in Tillamook.

Dang,

Is that your camera \ flash that made that difference, or was it just light coming into the hangar?

I was there on a very overcast day so the only light that was really available, was the week indoor lighting, and what my point and shoot flash could put out.

Curtis,
They opened the big hangar doors a little so there was quite a bit of light, though it was very overcast outside. I used a 10 megapixel 35mm digital camera with a tripod. Some of my pictures were still a little dark so I lightened them with Photoshop. I have taken digital pictures as dark as yours in poorly lit museums and made them into very presentable pictures with Photoshop.

Great photos chaps, thanks for sharing them. This is one of the replicas? Or is it one of the real ones? It looks great either way.
