Always thought these were cool looking jets. I wonder if one will ever be restored to fly? Any in civilian hands???

BDK,

There are several Ouragans in El Salvador, where they served since the early 1970s.

None of them AFAIK, are flying, but rumors surface on a regular basis, that they will be put back into flying status, with nothing happening every single time.

Thus, there should be at least one, or maybe more Ouragans that could eventually make it back to the skies.

Tulio,

Why would El Salvador put them back into flying condition? Do they have a heritage display of some kind or would this be a private party?

Thanks,

BK

I think it's called an 'Air Force'!

Surely they must have something more up to date than that as front line aircraft????? :?

About 8 A-37s and the same number of O-2s, I believe.

There has been some talk about bringing one of them at least, back to flying condition, for display purposes.

There is also at least one surviving Fouga Magister, although the display aircraft crashed a few years back.

Components though, seem to be expired and of course spare parts are difficult -and very expensive- to obtain.

They operate Cessna A-37Bs (and have a very good demo team, called Escuadrilla Cuscatlan), some Cessna O-2,
a few BT-67s, Bell 212s and 412s (from the top of my head, I don't recall any others).

Not long ago, someone mentioned in another forum, that they had at least one Ouragan that was capable of taxiing.

Money as usual, would be the main obstacle not only for refurbishing these airplanes, but also for any new
-or rather- not as old aircraft.

The same is true for most Central American nations that have an Air Force.

Were the El Salvador Ouragans ex-Israeli birds? I know the Israelis sold their remaining Super Mysteres to one of the Central American air forces. I'm pretty sure the Israelis have at least one Ouragan at the IAF Museum, but it is static. They also built the Magister under license, too.

Yes, they were ex-Israeli.

El Salvador purchased the Ouragans, while Honduras acquired the Super Mystere SMB-2s.
