Dan, please keep updating here. You started this thread before the Maintenance Hangar existed. If Scott wants to move it he can, but until then, this is your home for updates! :)

Dan,

I agree with Alan and CAPFlyer, I really enjoy your updates here. It's good to see the progress that you are making on both airplanes, and, from my personal experience of late, it's nice to see more than one volunteer working on the project. :? Just keep us informed from time to time and we'll be happy.

Scott

Dan,

Did someone say something about it? As far as I can see, there isn't anyone that minds where you post, as long as you post. Given that I have a small financial interest in the PBJ now, I want to see the progress reports so I can justify continued support. I know it isn't much, but it is something.

What brought this on? Keep on posting, Dan! We all appreciate the input from you on this project.

After all of the mail I got I think I better explain a few things.

With all of the traffic in the Wix Hangar, threads get dumped from page one very quickly and people have complained that they can’t find my thread.

I know that some threads can be made sticky but I don’t feel that my thread merits that status nor do I want the responsibility to have to update the thing on a regular basis. I want to keep people informed but let’s face it this is a long term project and it will be a couple more years before we fly. It is hard for me to supply exciting pictures and events on a weekly basis.

Also for those interested in the PBJ I don’t have much to report these days as we at the wing have been forced to stop working on her this winter as other aircraft need to get on line for the season. I spent all day yesterday working on the C-46 and will probably work on her until April or May.

I want to keep posting so if Scott will move me to the other forum great. By the way our website has a link to our monthly newsletter so folks can keep up with things at the So Cal Wing.

Dan

Dan,

Your reasoning makes sense with the long lead time involved, if you decide to head over to the Maintenance Hangar we'll definitely follow you there. I think a lot of us thought that you were no longer going to do ANY updates, and that would be BAD! We really appreciate the periodic progress notes that you provide and would miss them greatly. As far as updates, you'll notice that we've not done much on Ol' 927 this season (due to lack of manpower) but people still check in from time to time to view the thread.

To everyone else that hasn't done these periodic updates with photos, it really can be a PITA sometimes to drop what you're doing to do an update. I'm in no way complaining about doing the updates, just admitting that sometimes it's hard to stop, clean your hands, and snap pictures or get on the computer. On the other hand, the updates have become an integral part of our work on these old airplanes and we really appreciate how much interest the WIX has generated. Gary, Dan, and Sabremech, along with others, have started a precedent that I hope continues. In my personal case, the Lil thread and Gary's commitment are the entire reason I've become hands-on within the Warbird movement.

While I'm preaching, I guess I should go back to my hole and finish that cowl flap update!

Just my two cents,
Scott

15 seconds and a search for "PBJ" brings this thread up every time. It's easy to find.

Keep posting Dan!

I'm going down to CMA tomorrow to work on China Doll. I PM'd Scott about moving this thread.

Hi guys,

Jeff and I drilled and Ken, Roger and Jerry fabricated. When you look at the roof of China Doll from the darkened interior the hundreds of holes drilled in the skins look like stars shining in the night sky. Hundreds of holes each needing a rivet!

We still have several more days of preparation before we can start shooting. Once shooting starts things will progress quickly. Everyone wants to know when she will fly. April? May? We will know more once we start shooting.

Dan

First thanks for keeping up up to date on the happenings of the PBJ and C-46. I was wondering if you happened to know what the latest was on the SNJ that Joe P. is building up. I remember seeing that collection of parts when the wing was preparing to pick it up and make it airplane out of it, it is a BIG Job.

Thanks again,
Chris

Hi Chris,

Here are a couple of photos from yesterday. Joe is getting close. I think she may fly this year. You bring up a very good point. It IS a big job! None of us are getting any younger. I’ll let Joe know about your post.

I was attending the grand opening of the restored Granada theater in Santa Barbara the other day and walked by a hobby shop on the way. I haven't been in a hobby shop for years. What do i see? ... your PBJ model being fixed up again. I guess it was in the sun a little too long one day. It's going to look great again soon. Small world.

And yes, I'll come down in a month or so for a donation and a few photos next to your F6F. ....
