TBM Turret Hatch Picture

Thu Feb 21, 2008 5:26 pm

A friend in Israel who is restoring a TBM is looking for some good photos of the turret escape hatch.Does anyone have close access to a TBM with turret and hatch installed that could e-mail some pictures to me?He is actually needing close up shots of small rotating window in the hatch and assorted track, hardware etc. He is building a hatch for me too. Thanks, Charlie

Is it to fly? Very interesting stuff. Im always interested in hearing about warbirds being restored in locations that you wouldn't necessarily look first. Did you check the link on the Website right here?

Of course it is going to fly. There's already plenty hanging quietly in museums.I am still trying to raise $30000 for engine overhaul if you would like to contribute. Thanks for the reply but those pictures have the hatch removed. My turret is done except for painting the dome and finishing the hatch.

Charlie, I may be able to get you detailed shots of the Collings TBM hatch next week... please email me with any direction to specific places you need detail of. Nate Mayo did the rebuild of it and it's pretty stock.

Charlie, I wish I was back in VT. At my granmothers place is a TBM turret hatch frame that was found at FLL when it got dug up while they were building a access road on the airport. It not in bad shape, the release mechnism is there but rusty. If I ever get back there, I will grab it but it will be a while. I still got to find some instruments that I promissed the guy with the C-47 nose project that came from Gary A. but those are here somewhere here in TN.

Charlie's and his TBM are top notch. He took the time to have us over at his hangar, and it was a great time. The TBM is a beauty.

Hey Charlie, when you have some spare time, how's about posting a photographic update on your TBM's progress? It's been a while.

If you go back to October on this site under TBM fundraising there are some pictures of my TBM.It looks same now but I have spent 200-300 hours working on wiring, instrument panel and misc small parts this winter.Other than that fuselage looks the same.It will be about next fall before you will be able to see progress in a picture. Thanks, Charlie
