or at least they took pictures of Ben Affleck in it.
Not a prop... but for the movie posters?

Ben Affleck is a Prop! Or at least a cardboard cut out!

There was once a rumor that my high school was going to get a prop P-40 but that never came true, bummer. We where the Morse Tigers and we had an aviation program, hence the crazy rumor.

All I saw was:

I didn't see the other angle. Good thing the wind wasn't blowing.

Regarding the "Tora" P-40 replicas - a left over one was
acquired by Universal in 1978 for Spielberg's film comedy 1941.
It was used for the Wild Bill crash scene in the street and cockpit
close-ups with John Belushi. The flying P-40 was N1207V (P-40E)
flown by Tom Camp who landed it on a road in Death Valley
for one scene.

Up to four P-40s were used for Pearl Harbor:
P-40E: N94466, P-40N: N85104, N1195N, N999CD.
All 4 were used at Point Mugu, CA. in the "Mitchell Field"
sequence, the P-40E is evident of course by the rounded
rear cockpit glass.
15 to 20 P-40 replicas were created and its great to see a few still
around as in the above pictures.

Here is the surviving Tora and 1941 P-40 replica when I photographed it on display at the Cradle of Aviation Museum, Mitchel Field NY in 1983. I've emailed the museum asking them whatever happened to it. If I get a response I'll let everyone know.

Regarding the Tora replicas, IIRC they all had Beech C-45 wings and T-6 landing gear is this correct? I know a few had electric motors for the crash scenes. What I also noticed during that crash scene was the fuselage had tubular steel contruction apparently. I wonder if this was because of the planned taxiing or were they all constructed as such?

According to the director's commentary on T-T-T, the scene where the taxiing P-40 crashes into a line of parked aircraft (shown from several different angles in the film) was actually an accident. The plane was supposed to taxi along and explode when strafed by a "Zero."

But..the replicas were steered with the brakes, and when the one taxiing got up a little speed, the wings started generating lift, and one wheel lifted off the ground. The plane went out of control and plowed into the line of parked aircraft. The special effects guys set off the explosives inside to stop it, but all those "troops" you see scrambling for cover are actually film crew, and they really were trying to save their butts. In one angle, you can even see a camera mounted on a tripod.

Even though it was a total accident, it's still one of the most awsome shots in the movie! I can actually enjoy it, knowing that no real aircraft were harmed...
