If their was to be a gaithering of Flyable Tora Tora Tora Airplanes How many might their be ? I know that the CAF has pretty good size group are their any others groups ? ...........................Real planes included !

FYI I am one of those folks, flying TORA 101, a privately owned TORA! TORA! TORA! movie Zero replica out of the Wichita area. I do 15 - 22 events each year, as we have for the past 15 years; have about 1600 hours in seat now.

And yes, I get shot down in the end at most events . . . but someone has to be the enemy to show the challenges and huge sacrifices made by all in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Besides, there is no lack of available shows to do since there are so few of us bad guys around . . . and its a lot more fun!

To note, there is a pretty good list on the 'net of the TORA! TORA! TORA! movie planes and their status . . . looked on my computer and could not find it but if I do I can pass it on. Otherwise you might just Google for it.

Out of a total of a bit over 20 (doing a quick count in my head), about 1/2 are owned and operated by the CAF . . . with some of the privately owned aircraft (like me) also qualified and flying with them at various times. Jim Bradford of the group is putting together a book on the history of CAF TORA; should be out this spring and will be an interesting read.

That OZ Tora Zero use to be owned by Dick Foote along with a Kate. He and a bunch of guys in the northeast use to operate Warbirds International, a warbird airshow group.

Jerry, i remember seeing an old airshow video of a Pratt and Whitney show that displayed Warbirds International.

I always thought that was a pretty sweet act. A kate, zero, and wildcat.

Nice combo . But where did the Kate go?

Chicks Dig Warbirds.......right?

It is nice to know that these planes are still flying with CAF and other groups. I was living in Hawaii during the filming of the movie and was able to see these planes first hand in 1969 while my dad was stationed at Barbers Point. I was 12 at the time but still remember the first time I saw the planes come over at a very low altitude while playing and it scared the **** out of me at first because no one knew that they were filming a movie. I am going to see if I have any pictures from that time. At one time I had a replica 100lb bomb that was used in the movie mabe from balsa and plywood and brought it back from Hawaii to California then to Texas my mother tells me I still have it in the attic of their house.

You are right it belongs to Planes of Fame, Chino, CA. It is usually located at the Planes of Fame branch museum in Valle, AZ.
