OK I'll get the TN posse together and we will mount up and give you a date for when we head to TX.

We had a "Special Assistance Visit" yesterday from some Ne'er Do Well from National HQ! :D
Image

It was a morale booster, because the quality of the work was approved, EVEN IF the squawk list got a little longer.
(Now why didn't someone see those blown out stringers BEFORE? hmm)

Anyway, it was a great way to spend the day, THE TEXAS RAIDERS got a free Aircraft Survey, and advice and the Gulf Coast Wing Volunteers left feeling like GODS AMONG MEN! Which of course they are!

Never having done it, I was told the funnest job of the gunner on a Buff (B-52) was emergency gear extension. Had to get into the wheel well, strap in and pump the gear down, which meant you were in the OPEN gear well. Then move back and do the aft gear. Has anyone ever heard of this? :?:

The closest I could come to B52 Landing Gear pictures were these delectable shots of Curtis-Wright R-1820-97 almost ready for mounting on #3 Pylon.
Gary wants some Fire Sheilding on ALL the hoses. It's ONLY money Gary!
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
I know, it's only cheap insurance!

Hate to put cowling on to cover up something as purty as that engine!

Don, that is a good call. I would have made the same suggestion.

Evil Gary Austin is going to make us put Fire-Sleeves on ALL the hoses.

Kinda makes it look like a baked potato.

But I guess if it keeps the smoke and the flames to a minimum, it's OK!

We are getting a visit from the Head Honcho of CAF this Sat. so I don't think we are going to be hanging #3 yet.
AND it will be easier to install the fire-sleeves with the engines OFF the airplane than on.

So NOW it's time to convince all the troops to get out their toothbrushes and GET AFTER IT! We are going for the cleanest, worn-out paint-job in the WIDE WORLD of WIX!

Work party dissassembling MORE flap transmissions.
Gary Austin found an 11th Transmission hiding in a hellhole in the belly of the beast!

When will it be flying?
When it's ready!
When will it be ready?
When you come work on it!
What do you want me to work on?
We REALLY need to clean it to finish the inspection!
Uh... I can't make it this week, I gotta go shave my ex-girlfirend's cat's tail.

What do we want ~ More Pictures !
When do we want them ~ sometime soon !

Ideally they will be of "TR" rather than the cat's tail ...... :D

Oh ! And my Wing Membership renewal was airmailed last week ~ with a bit more to help the restoration !

Bless you!

Here's a picture of my Dad in Grafton-Undermud...er...Grafton-Underwood in 1943.
I believe the airplane is the one he left at the bottom of the English Channel.

It will have to tide you over until I get back to TR with the Digi-Cam.
OR I get the pictures of the Cat Derrieres developed!
Cheers mate,

DIRTY PICTURES
Blown out Stringers and other grief discovered by that rascle Gary Austin.
This is the first Phase of performing an entire Aircraft Survey to discover what lurks beneath the floorboards and nooks and crannies.
The Second Phase is going to be a Project Plan to address the issues.
I know the kids HATE this kind of stuff, but until one is completed and complied with... the TR will not be finished and signed off. :D

And SHE WILL be finished and signed off!

That's the spirit, Don. :D

I'm sorry that I had to be the bearer of bad news, but think how much better you'll feel flying around in T.R. once all that stuff is fixed.

Y'all are doing great work. Hang in there and it'll eventually get finished.

Gary

It's NICE to be King! :D

After another weekend of cleaning the right wing and the bomb-bay it occurred to me that I haven't updated me WIX in way too long.
We are steadily making progress... There's a B17 under ALL that dirt!
The #4 engine has been turned.

The real progress has to been to implement a Quality Assurance/Quality Control Program. We are using the DA 2404 from Army Aviation.

The plane has had more access panels taken off the #2 and #3 engine nacelles to have the scurf and skank blown out.
That is "wild Bill" under #3 with the screwdriver removing the stainless steel panel just aft of the turbo.

And the Project Plan has grown by about another three pages.

More photos soon.
