For Tulio. Honduran jets. Early Late 80s?

Fri Jan 18, 2008 10:00 pm

Tulio,
Cleaning out the upstairs office and getting ready for baby #3. Pretty soon, I'll be living at the hangar. Found the sales packet for the Honduran F-86s and one T-33. Spare parts, S/Ns, engine times etc. At the time Evergreen was looking at buying some jets for the collection and this stuff was sent to me in hopes I could talk Del Smith into buying the entire inventory. They turned out to be airplanes that were hard to import due to FMS restrictions. Last time I heard, they were all sitting there covered in weeds.

Good pics,Albert. I would say they're late 80's/early 90s
The T-33 picture above is actually at the museum in Tegucigalpa,as well as a F-86K and F-86F,among others.
Another pair of F-86Ks stand as gate guardians at San Pedro Sula and La Ceiba air bases respectively.
About 6-7 F-86F will be auctioned when a long court battle between a private party and the goverment ends hopefully soon.
The aircraft that are being currently being sold are the Super Mysteres, along with some spare parts and other aircraf/equipment.

What are the odds that one of those Super Mysteres will make it to the U.S.? IIRC, it was the French equivalent of the F-100, able to do supersonic in level flight. I believe the Honduran jets were ex-Israeli Air Force birds that were re-engined to take the A-4 Skyhawks engine.

Al,

The T-33 was the sole example operated by the FAH, while the F-86s and Super Mysteres operated in slightly larger numbers.

As for the question, if these aircraft could make it to the US warbird market, the F-86s and Super Mysteres were put up for sale back in December 2000, by an individual based in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

I know that the sale did not take place, since the F-86s are still in Honduras, as are the Super Mysteres.

I do not know why the airplanes were not sold.

Saludos,

Tulio

The F-86s were not included in the auction list since there's still a legal process going on with the person who bought them and never removed them from the base.
The Super Mysteres were not available for sale back in 2000 since they were still in service and flying until around 2003.They were retired from service mostly for lack of parts for the ejection seats.

This photo was taken in 1986 at Kelly AFB in Texas, after a new paint scheme and other components were added to the honduran SMB2 (Sambad)

There are 20 pages of data. 2 pages of S/Ns and spare engine info and 18 pages of spare parts. As you can see from the gun bay photo of the F-86E, these birds were probably operational at the time these photos were taken.

Hey, Al:

Other than having removed the name and telephone numbers of the person who posted the ads in Barnstormers, this is what the messages stated in 2000:

The Super Mysteres were painted in San Angelo, Texas in 1984-5. Seems like among way to go for a paint job.
It was all rather hush-hush, sorry, no photos.
