I have the answer. :!:

There is in fact an OV-1 based at Lago Vista; it's privately owned, certified experimental and is flying......and to quote my friend...not in bad shape :) Not entirely sure which hangar it might be in, if any. I do have the owner's name but have asked for a bit of clarifying info. Will report more info if there is any to come.

Tulio....check PMs.

Perhaps there are some pics out there. Also, I'm still planning on heading out there this coming weekend to take some pics.

Mike

If you see them, any pictures would be more then welcome! :)

The N number is the filename.

And the Phantom, marked as 64-10000 but it should be 64-1000, someone got carried away with the zero's.

The Phantom is a famous recce from Bergstrom. It was originally put on display at the main gate RF display. It was moved out to Lago Vista when the base closed down. A local Marine volunteer repainted her in fictional Marine colors. She should be in the standard SE Asia camo colors.

You really gotta go to this airport to get a feel for it...It is on TOP of a hill with a down right scary looking drop to the south...heck the road to the airport scares the wife...

Thanks for the pictures! Those Fouga's look nice! :-) Any reason why there are so many on that airport?. They look like flyers.

Ztex, you're right on with that comment. Can you imagine dragging an F-4 up that hill on the little subdivision road ? Even a gutted one weighs over 23,000 lbs ! First time I saw the F-4 it was on top of the hill about halfway down the strip.

If I recall only the cammo plane had a decent interior.

There is a small museum there, but several calls to the guy he couldn't seem to arrange a time where we could meet. Several soucres on the web indicate there is a F100 I believe there somewhere but its not outside.

I'd like to see the Mohawk if we find out any more info about the guy.

Bill.

Bill, the F-100 also came from Bergstrom and was parked in front of the F-4 prior to it being put on the pedestal.

I did not see the F-100 when we visited last spring...

The only one of these Fougas I have seen flying is N19JV, it was in Ft. Worth in 2005...

Speaking of the Cavanaugh Mohawk, it is the subject of the centerfold for the current issue of Fly Past. I always knew that Doug and Ronnie wanted to appear in the centerfold of an adult magazine! :D

Got it! 8)

We took a trip out to Lago Vista this afternoon and promptly found the Mohawk. That hill was no joke!

Aside from needing some new paint, it looked to be in reasonably good condition. There was little activity at the airport, so I couldn't ask around.

Really, really bad pic of the interior (I held my camera up).

Finally, Amelia - my little copilot and future Aviatrix. :)

Fouga23: No sign of the Fougas anywhere. We drove all over the area and found nothing. :(
