This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Warning to some: There might be opinions or ideas on this site that may offend you. Best to stay away in that case.
For the rest who might be open minded: which do you think is the prettiest or coolest MODEL of a Mustang? I am not asking about individual paint scheme variations, just which model.

Bill, are you just stirring the pot with this one?
I'm a little Mustang ignorant so they all look the same to me, other than the early version with the non-bubble canopy.
Cheers,
David

David, if the A model looks the same to you as a D model and as an F-82, then you must have had a BIG new years eve!!!. Take a few alka-seltzer, get some sleep, and try again Wed!

Bill, I'd have to say that the A model and the B/C fitted with the Malcom Hood are the best looking.

I really like 'em all, but if I had to pick a fave, it would be the D-model.
D.

I am very partial to the -A model, from a photographer's point of view...
(even a semi-bogus -A model!) ...

My favs of production or built prototypes would be the H model, along with the G & J. Next would be the Red Baron RB-51. I think the Cavalier Turbo Mustang III tops them all. I think the unbuilt radial engined designs are cool too.

Two votes for the B/C with the Malcom hood!
(Although I
do have a fondness for the rare A-36 variant!)

THere's something really special about NX1202 and NX1204. WW II Ace Charles Blair, set records in one of them while painted as "Exalibur" while married to Maureen O'Hara. They also owned Antilles Air Boats in the Virgin Islands. THe had a mansion built on a mountain overlooking St. Croix where they lived when she wasn't making movies.
I fell in love with NX1202 while at the NASM on a high school trip. Rekindled the flame while gazing at NX1204 at GML. Look at how the guns are recessed in the wings as are the landing light. Since Kermit's is in private hands and flyable, it gets my vote for the "holy grail" of all P-51's.

Well I am torn between a P-51B/C with Maclom hood or a Cavalier Mustang with wing tip tanks.

Actually I've always liked the looks of the Whittington's polished D with the 'H' tail

Should I ever come into a ton of money, it's a B/C all the way. Got my fictional 4th paint scheme ready.
Best I could do so far was a custom die cast P51C from Eagles International in 1/48th in the scheme off my profile. Can't fit in it, but at least it's metal
