Gary, I think you misunderstood me or at least misstate what I wrote... We aren't all overpaid, wealthy A&P/Midland oil men after all.

Well there's no misunderstanding that last line, is there?

I'm sure the comment is in jest... right?

Aww, simmer down Bill. I wasn't picking on you. :D I was just stating a fact that there are many folks who say "that's too much for a helmet," whether it's a Campbell helmet or a Flight Suits Limited (or whatever their new name is now) helmet, or whatever. I know you wear the David Clark helmet and that's great. Frankly, I think anyone that flies Warbirds, aerobatic aircraft, or air racers, just to name a few, should strongly consider wearing a helmet. I'm guilty of not wearing one in every single airplane I fly, but it's getting to where I find myself wearing one more and more often.

So now it's off to work for me. And no, my job isn't to sit around and count my money or imaginary oil wells like you think I might have.

Django, do you know many, if any overpaid, mechanics at CAF? If you have any doubt that I was joking with Gary then I don't know what else to say. Midland does have many wealthy oil people, but I didn't know Gary was one. He probably deserves to be.
If you are going to quote me, not in the way of a jest, why not quote all of what I wrote? Did you need to pick 2 sentences out of 12 to try to slant my meaning?

I recall Bob Hoover used to fly his Mustang in a business suit and without a helmet, I think. I think he started using a flightsuit after he had a fire on the ground.
I saw a recent test of bike helmets which I wear always. Up to15-20 mph, they offered protection, but not much after that. My son wears a full helmet and it has saved him in a crash racing motorcycles with falls near 100 mph. He has had concusssions and knocked himself out, but recovered.

Well, I guess I'll keep using my hand instead of goggles...

Sorry Bill, I realized it was a joke after the fact.

See those little round face thingies on your left that look like this... ;) I think you'd get alot less grief if you learned to use them. (wait for it... ;) ...look, a smilie so you know I was joking. )

The HGU-55 helmet only provides limited "crash" protection as well. It essentally is protection while moving around in the cockpit plus a handly place to put earphones and a mic. It also protects the skull when ejecting, and potentially a little bonk on the skull you might get when performing your parachute landing fall after landing.

It's really only slightly better than a bicycle helmet.

Good point Randy, but I'd say it's a whole lot better than wearing no helmet at all. :)
