That is a cool looking museum. I love the pic of the teenagers in the C-130.

Pt Cook R.A.A.F. museum is a great place, it goes to show what can be done with lots of government money and the full resources of the R.A.A.F maintenance network. There are plenty of really great museums in Aust. Most are private affairs that run on membership donations and entry fees, some of the aircraft that have been restored in these outfits are just amazing, for those who have never been down here to see what we have, not just in aircraft, you will not be disappointed.

Guys,

Agree with the comments ref Point Cook. The boys there have done a great job but not with unlimited funding or resources. That makes their efforts all the better.

Another Aussie Museum worth the look is the Temora Aviation Museum. All exhibits fly regularly throughout the year with numerous visiting aircraft. Check out the site at www.aviationmuseum.com.au

Proped up,

Sorry I have to giggle at the line about lots of government money; the problem has been the opposite. However, things are looking up now that the DoD has decided they need to maintain a presence in Point Cook, and the airport will be kept as an airport rather than sold to developers. This means the world's oldest continuously-used air base will continue to be used. The 100th anniversary is only a few years away now, and we can at last be confident there will be a healthy celebration.

I'm quite sure that the aircraft on display were not acquired by members donations, and the transport of these aircraft utilising the R.A.A.F, and other agencies don't just get donated. members subs and donations don't scratch the surface when it come to what has gone into that collection. Most private museums struggle with the day to day bill's let alone the restoration and purchase costs. The Gov may not be handing out bucket full of folders, but the support in kind is there and with out that they would have nothing. The result is a world class museum that we can all be proud of, but to think that it runs with little or no Government support is just a giggle.
