Chris, Roger I'd like to have my son David see the guys from WIX. He is not the crazy one who races motorcycles, rather he is the other crazy one who skis down slopes you'd have hard time climbing up. Where are most of the Wix guys going to be? The bombers are usually on the east side of our area and the fighters on the west side near the hangar, closer to the museum, officers club, and concessions. I hope to fly in the show Sat, so for me I have to go to the Ralph Royce Comedy Hour( AKA briefing) about 9:30, then after flying late afternoon get fuel, etc. I am not sure if I will fly Sun in the show. It is a long hike over to the B24, likely. Sometimes that ramp is more restricted due to modern military stuff. If not in front of the B-24 another central sight is the officers club tent( remember to remove hats at the door).

Hi Bill,

I'll be doing media coverage of the event, so not sure where I'll be hanging out. This is my first visit to Midland, so it will all be new to me. If your there on Friday, I'll definitely look you up and introduce myself prior to the show. If someone wants to try setting up a WIX meeting time that doesn't conflict with the flying part of the show, that works for me.

I think most everyone is at the Saturday Barbeque so Bill probably has the best idea. We can meet up at one of the tables in the "O" club.

On second thought having a photo with Gary and 297 would be great and the guys down at that end ought to do it. Maybe the others could meet up by the club or the fighters. I may sneak out to the FBO to see some of the football games in midday. Roger the museum is small but worth going in.

Re; the availability of rooms...y'all need to really be on the phone as rooms are going quickly in the area. The oil boom has had a major impact on us.

Re: the show, glad Bill got his letter from me, but Bill, you know Ralphie's briefing is at 9 am and he doesn't like late comers (the "chair" you know)...Eric and Rick Sharp will have the Skyraiders and we should have two Hueys and a Cobra for the VNam segment, Lone Star's Doolittle Raiders B-25 will be here, and Ole 927 will have special "recreation," a Half Mile Wall of Fire courtesy the pyro guys.

I'm sure I'll see Alan and Steve Rister on Friday...they can tell me where the majority of you are gathering. I'd like to meet you all. Oh, the Hooters' girls will be serving stuff in the O Club reception on Friday: that might be a good place to congregate.

Karen:
Yep, that is where I think we'll park the O-2s over on the edge of the bomber ramp....and we'll have at least one other O-2 to follow you around during the VNam segment.
Roger: yep, real Hooters girls.

Rick:

I would love it, but the Airsho budget wouldn't, and the CAF membership would hang me if we didn't make at least a little profit!

If you can do it for fuel???

I am sorry :( Oh, and the "Commie" jet we're using is based at Midland, so gas doesn't cost us much...

My son David and I arrived at Midland safely, just about 25 knots of headwind all the way, about 22knots on landing. Plus was getting to talk to Gary Austin who came by the plane, still on a Reno high. Negative was being told as soon as I stopped that I was in the wrong space, that it was reserved for T-28s. Tried to get fuel and oil Fri afternoon and appears volunteers have decided the almost new Officers Club is more fun than out on the fligt line. CAF has definitely changed. Hope the Bar B Q is still good.

Wow! You mean they finally have an Officer's Club instead of a tent?
That was something that was promised to be there right away during the move from Harlingen to Midland and if it is finally there, it only took them 14 years to do it. About time..

Yep, they have the O Club or at least the new hangar that it will be in. Had some good BAr B Q there tonight and saw Taylor, Chris, and a number of other WIX folks.
