Mudge you may want to check to make sure you didn't set off the ELT after a hard landing. I like to check the ELT and the P-leads before shutdown.

Many years ago in the TFC "tea room" at Dx one of the guy was fiddling about with an ELT. After a few minutes a SAR helicopter suddenly appeared & landed nearby.
The reaction from the guy with the ELT was utter panic with everyone telling him how much the bill was going to be for the false alarm etc.

What he didn't know was that the helio just happened to be passing & decided to drop in for a few minutes, nothing to do with his ELT fiddling at all, but his life was complete misery for about 5 minutes :)

Here’s my funny ELT story-

I received a phone call from the CAP one time. Seems they had found a downed aircraft inside a box of parts, inside a van, that I had parked in the hangar.

Darn potholes on the Interstate!

A number of years ago Ellen and I were cruising along and the Center controller asked me if I would help them find the source of an ELT signal. We dialed it up, and after setting up a rough search pattern, we found the source at a private strip--a gentleman doing maintenance on his Grumman Tiger. It was actually quite easy after I figured out my search method, and the guilty fellow was embarrassed but glad I was the one who found him!
