somebody stole my dad's only uniform on an island in the Pacific. There were still Japanese dead. So, he hunted for a uniform. Found one about his size and started to undress the body when a Marine came along and said, "Strange way of collecting trophies, fella!" Dad, replied #@#. He boiled the uniform, painted his boondockers red, and wore the uniform on a mission. Most in the squadron figured Dad as a somewhat unusual character and let it be. However, the squadron commander found out and made sure dad had a new U.S. Navy issued uniform.
Completely unrelated but this reminded me of my grandfather. While he was in the Philippines he adopted a spider monkey named Pete. Pete would cost my grandfather a ton of money because he would steal and eat everyones' candy and cigarettes. While in Japan his battalion was preparing to board a ship the next day and someone stole Pete.
