The Vietnam Memorial is located on the Mall, west of the Washington Monument, but east of the Lincoln Memorial. IIRC, it is roughly at 23rd and Constitution. Last time I drove by there I did not see a Huey, however, it is fairly well hidden by trees, so it may be there. I personally don't recall any stories about putting a Huey at the memorial.

The Navy Museum is located at the Anacostia Navy Yard, adjacent to the Anacostia river. On Google Earth, you should be able to see the Forrest Sherman class destroyer USS Barry tied up to the pier. The museum is nearby. I haven't been to the museum in almost 30 years, so I can't give any kind of accurate information on whether there are planes there. As best as I recall and looking at family photos from our trip there, there were none. There is (was?) a Regulus missile on a pylon outside the museum, which may look like an airplane from the satellite photography.

The wall is in a "V" shape. Correct?



Are the naval yards across the river from Ronald Regan International?

The Navy Yard is at 38.52.35N 76.59.35W. It's nowhere near Reagan Intl.

I was at the Navy Museum in March of 2005. There were two "aircraft" there hanging from the ceiling. One was an F4U-4 Corsair and the other was a Japanese Baka bomb. There were also a number of WW2 aircraft recognition models on display.

The Navy Museum is on the Washington Navy Yard, about a half-mile upriver on the Anacostia River from where the Anacostic empties into the Potomac.

It's a neat place. I highly recommend it if your in D.C. As is typical for museums on military installations, security has tightened, and frequently changes, so I would recommend calling the Public Affairs Office to get current requirements. The Main Gate is on M Street SE at about 6th St

A trip to the DC area could not be complete without a stop by our CAF unit, the National Capitol Squadron. We are an hour drive west of town at the Culpeper airport. Besides the unit's beautiful L-5 and BT-13 we have 3 T-6s, one T-28, a VAL and a Chipmunk based in our hangar. The second Saturday of each month we have an "Open Hangar Day" to welcome visitors. However, if someone wants to tour the faciltiy on any other day they can contact me personally and I will make arrangements. If the weather is nice you might even get a ride!

PS The only F-86 I know of is located in the yard of the Soldiers Home off of North Capitol

mustangdriver, I was just up at Allegheny this past weekend in my bird. Sorry, I should have stopped by the Keystone Wing for a visit. If you're ever down this way, look me up and come see us in Culpeper.

So that was you? I saw the T-6, and sent pics to some friends. It was sharp looking man. Did you see the H-58 come in here? I watched you leave on Sunday from the tower. That is where I work.

That was me, loaded up the wife (and fetus) and came back to DC. My kudos to all of you guys in the Allegheny tower. They were kind enough to let me do a low pass when I arrived on Friday. I've been flying up that way on and off for 5-6 years (not always in my T-6) and always get great service. I'll make sure to stop in next time. If you're around, ride is on me.

The Vietnam Memorial is in a "V" shape.

I get the Navy Yard / Ft. McNair / Bolling AFB all juxtaposed in my mind since they all are in such close proximity to each other. Yes, they all are across the river from National Airport. If you look closely at about 10 O'Clock to the stern of the USS Barry, you can see some of the remnants of NAS Anacostia, including some old hangar buildings and a bit of the tarmac. All of this is now adjacent to the new stadium building next door.
