George,
I've been working on a Franken-Liberator for some time, pulling pieces parts from all over: http://www.questmasters.us/B-24.html

At best I hope to restore and present the waist gun through mid bomb bay section and cockpit section forward. I just traded my bomb racks and bomb bay doors to Gary, see his thread, to help in the restoration of "Diamond Lil", so unless I find another set - I won't be able to present that section.

Quest Master, I was looking at your pics, lots of neat stuff there.

I noticed your B24 oil tanks, there is something very similar to that in a field just north east of Bastogne, Belgium. about 100-200 yards outside of town. There is a Sherman tank or parts of there as well the way I remember (2003).

I have run across lots of odd stuff in the fields over there.

Quest Master - Thats a very interesting project. Thanks for the link. Does Franken-Liberator mean several airframes? I've just never heard the term before. Its a shame that Angaur is so remote, because sprinkled among the airframes are many landing gear, turrets and other parts. And with only about 200 natives living on the entire island, most of the stuff is probably still fairly intact.

If you are at liberty to say, where did you find your project parts, and are you in the U.S.? Thanks again.

Rhinelander, I lived oversea's for quite a few years and have been Bastogne a bunch of times. Europe is interesting, there is just WWII stuff everywhere. When you say "Sherman Tank" are you referring to the Sherman turrets that now "Guard" the seven roads that lead to the town of Bastogne?

George, Franken-Liberator is a term I made up. I have been piling up B-24 parts/sections for years. Very few of them came from the exact same plane or factory - but I am going to stay strict to the B-24J/B-24L configuration. Not posted on my site (I have to do a bunch of updating this summer) are my Emerson Nose Turret and Complete Waist Gun Pos's with AN-M2's. I have also obtained a different M-250 Top Turret which is not pictured on my site.

The parts have come from all over the place (note the RCAF markings on the B-24L tail section), but I as well as all of the stuff on my site are here in the land of the big PX!

Quest Master, the Sherman parts are out in a field. I think the twin turrets that flank the road are due west of town?

The stuff I saw was someplace north of town further out in a field that was fenced off. Sorry I just cant remember exactly what was in that field besides the thing that looked exactly like your oil tanks. I remember that was one of the few places I wanted to go but did not want to upset a farmer.

Edit to add, the field was elevated so you had to be looking for it. I willl try to see if I have any pics.
