Anybody want to tell me why we should want to come to Geneseo in July?
I know someone here has pictures. Maybe even direct me to a past thread that has pictures.

Hey Mudge,
I've never been, but seeing some of the pictures on here, I think it would be a great airshow to go to! I just can't afford to get out that way so I'm stuck with the airshows out west.
I'd suggest that you check it out if it isn't too far for you, but then again, I've never been so....

The greatest thing about Geneseo is the up-close and informal environment of the airfield. It's a grass strip on a farm, no fences except along the flight line - watch your back for the taxiing aircraft.
They put on a chicken barbeque Friday night and a steak barbeque Saturday night. Everyone I've met there is friendly and having a great time. My friends and I sit under the tent smoking cigars and enjoying cold ones until after dark (as advertised - coolers welcome!) and no one chases us out.
If the weather is good for the weekend, you can expect a pretty good turnout of the east coast and Canadian warbirds.

I'm lucky enough to have participated in quite a few of the Geneseo shows, from the first in '81 to last year's, in B-17's to a Hurricane. And having been around North American airshows for 20+ years, still maintain that Geneseo is the best venue for "Warbird Ops" that is available. It's the ambiance of the "Valley". Grass runway operations. Small town hospitality. Hands on viewing of the aircraft. I'll never forget the first time Dave Tallichet (100BG vet.) swung out the nose of his B-17 after his first landing in Geneseo in the mid 80's, and his comment that this was the closest to England that he's seen since Thorpes Abbott in 1945. And he still come back. Try it, you WON'T regret it.

I thoroughly enjoyed the 2004 - 05 shows and was bummed that I had to miss last year. It is definitely one of my favorite shows. It has a very good warbird attendance, but just as important is the laid back atmosphere. The grass field, modest attendance of mostly warbird enthusiasts, and reasonable prices makes it one big picnic with great planes. It features WWI as well as WWII aircraft. You can enjoy the show from 6:00 am til dark if you want. Like Thunder, it is a great place to meet fellow WIX'ers.

Geneseo is a great place to go, very friendly.

The grey airplane with the 73 on the tail is a Fairchild PT-23A. It was built in 1943. As for a ride, all you can do is ask the owner if you bump into him/her.
Nice thing about Genny is you can get in starting at 6am and there is always someone cranking up for an early morning photo op or similar.
Genny hint...bring an extra pair of socks and shoes if you do get there real early in the morning. Lots of dew on the ground and your feet will get soaked.
I look at Genny as " Duxford light". Great setting, lots of warbirds and the friendliest group of people you will ever meet who run an airshow.

I haven't ever been, but I wonder about the runway, it is 4695' x 90 grass. I have been told it is "improved", but I was wondering, has Mike Schloss had the AD in there? I wonder if I could get the Skyraider in and out of there? It has one hell of alot of tail weight and a very small tailwheel.

I can't tell you if Mike ever landed at Geneseo, but we did have the -25 in there for two years. The first year it was real wet and the first 1000 feet of the runway was unusable. The rest was pretty wet as well, but obvioulsy usable. The -25s were making some pretty good ruts in part of the runway. So, for the 'raider, I think it would really depend on how the weather is leading up to the event. As an aside, taxiing the B-25 into the parking area could be a challenge too. It was pretty rough and we worried about the nose wheel bouncing around. That shouldn't affect the Skyraider though

I'll echo the comments of others as far as praising the event in Geneseo. I've only been going/flying in the show for the past 2 years, but its the still the best venue I've ever been to in this neck of the woods.
Eric - Be great to see you and your aircraft there. Ideally in the Skyraider (never seen one in person), but if things are looking too soft what about showing up in the Yale? Guarantee you'll have a good time and the beer/food tent lives up to its reputation.

Yes, at least one year Naked Fanny flew in and out of Geneseo. But I agree with Edward, bring the Yale.

I went to there once, and it was great. I flew down in a Piper Cub, and flew home in the C-123. Great place. Great people. We stayed up at night partying in the dorm rooms that we were staying in.
