Thanks. Happened in the Christchurch area (I am much further north in Blenheim, so didn't affect here) 7.1 on the Richter scale at about 10 km deep. Some damage to the older buildings and quite a few unsafe at present. A few bridges down within the city limits plus infrastucture damage-power due back on by 6 pm. Biggest here since 1931 which trashed Napier. We have around 4,000 quakes per year apparently-but most are very small or in the mountains. Hopefully no more biggies to come!
Fortunately no reports of deaths, a few injured.

Dave

Glad to hear you're all right, Dave! I hope the damage is minimal and no serious injuries result. Keep us informed if any museums or aircraft were damaged.
