He's a little easier to spot while on the PBY wings.......

And to my surprise, roadrunners aren't purple, with yellow beaks, and I've yet to see one eating a pile of yellow bird seed, even though I leave a sign in it that says, "Free Bird Seed." And once, just once, I would like to hear one go, "BEEP BEEP!!!" ;-)

They only eat the bird seed if you buy it at the Acme Bird Seed Store. Thats what makes them go beep-beep.

Gary,
Keep an eye on it, they have regular routes they travel. We had one at DVT that would come by everyday at about the same time. It would go down the ramp checking out the planes in the covered tiedowns looking for for something to eat.

They used to cruise the back lot at the car dealership in Yuma. That was my first contact with a non-purple roadrunner, and they are fun to watch. They did seem to follow the same route every day.

You're right, Matt. They are neat creatures. There's a family of them living out at my place. What's cool is that they have an appetite for rattlesnakes. I saw one two summers ago, with a dead snake hanging out both sides of his beak, as he was carrying it home. I understand that the way they kill the rattlers is they use their quickness to grab the snake's tail and quickly swing it around in order to bash it's head on the ground, killing it. Personally, I think that's pretty dang cool, and I'd love to see one do that sometime.

If the roadrunner kills the rattlesnakes, what do your cats do for fun?
