Unfortunately, I feel that 23,000 more troops is just a drop in the bucket and won't do much of anything given the widespread chaos and the size of the country. If I'm not mistaken I believe Baghdad alone has a population of nearly 8 million people. How on earth can we control the violence in such a large city with the forces that are currently deployed? Let's also not forget the Al Anbar province which is the other big hot-spot for violence and deaths of U.S. servicemembers.
This disaster in Iraq is looking more and more like Vietnam as the days go on. The only bright spot is that instead of 58,000 dead we might only see about 4,000-5,000 American dead once it's all over. Then you and I, my kids, and my grandkids can look forward to paying off the national credit card which was used to fund this misguided adventure...yippee!
