It is having an impact in America as well. My mom works for American Eurocopter, a division of Aerospatiale, which has a large stake in Airbus. Stocks (and pensions) are declining as we speak. Get those BRITS on the ball if you want to gloat about industry successes. 
Cheap crap comes from third-world unskilled labor, and America has become a nation of prosperous white-collar outsourcers. And it will bite us - perhaps it already is.
And lastly, commercial airliners are sold with seating packages; so if you had plenty of legroom, you should thank your carrier - not the aircraft manufacturer.
