I can't believe anyone in their right mind would think going to the Moon is pointless. Everyone here is missing the BIG PICTURE! We must, must, must go back to the Moon to recover the B-32 that has been sitting there since W.W.II. With the Swamp Ghost debacle now behind us, maybe we can convince the local, indiginous tribes that inhabit the Moon to fork over what is rightfully ours. Once the "Moon wrecks" webmaster stops making DVD's and obstructing the recovery, we can recover the B-32, "Moon Ghost", to take it's place back on Earth where she belongs. Since there is no corrosion in space, the B-32 will be in perfect condition. We should just be able to fire up the engines, (no APU, please), take her off and fly back to Earth. It's pretty simple really. All of this is totally dependent on making good relationships with the local crater owners where "Moon Ghost" resides. If we can convince them that tourism to see the "Moon Ghost" is unlikely, I think we have a real good chance at recovery.

Sorry for saying this but would it be more intelligent to put all our relics on the moon where conservation would be considerably cheaper? We could then mount expeditions there, giving it a X-Prize spin, or use information centres where you could safely explore the insides of the machines, in large, augmented immersive 3D caves... better than stroll around just in the human intended areas you could be inside the petrol pipeline feeding those wonderful piston engines like a blob of fuel!!!

Too bad their is no moon bank we can bailout, then everyone would be racing to get there.

Regarding the current situation with our space program, it has been on the decline for years so the current admin will just continue that trend. Get you head out man. Space doesn't have the lobbyists that Wall Street does.

Speaking of this, I saw an interesting story in the Times today about a new book, "Another Another Science Fiction: Advertising the Space Race 1957-1962", which presents a collection of aerospace company advertisements from those heady years. "Mad Men" meets "Flash Gordon," as the Times put it. Some sample ads and discussion here:
