For those who like things nautical, here's a museum that you should stop and visit if you get the chance, the Columbia River Maritime Museum in Astoria OR. This is a very nice, well laid out museum showcasing the rich maritime history of the area.
The museum includes alot of information and displays on commercial and military marine history, and info on the area around the mouth of the Columbia River which is known as the graveyard of the Pacific. Inside the museum there are some great maritime related artifacts, models and complete boats on display. You can also go aboard the lightship Columbia and one particularly cool display was the spectacularly mounted USCG 44ft Motor Lifeboat in rough seas rescuing a person in the water.
Also as an added bonus, we watched a USCG HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter doing hoisting exercises with USCG ship near the museum.
Below are a few photos we took but you have to visit it to truly appreciate the museum.
