A not Hair Brained Scheme

Thu Jun 28, 2007 10:40 pm

Sometimes serious things can have a funny side. The big headlines in the papers Wed were about the secret files of past CIA covert domestic activites. Most of it has been rumored in the past, but there was one part I'd never heard of. Our govt wanted the Mafia to asassinate Castro. The crime bosses probaably are patriotic in the bigger sense, and probably figured it could be a good deal for them. Anyway such things as poison pills did not work and one scheme the undercover guys came up with was to get Fidel into a scuba wet suit that had been treated with a depilatory that would make all his hair fall out! I could only think of Robin Williams when I read that.

I remember reading an article in WWII magazine about how the govt. cut a deal with the local Mafia in NJ and NYC to help monitor the docks and keep an eye out for spys early in the war.

Hmmm....
