Since it's mounted to the helmet it looks a lot more comfortable than the early PVS-7 night vision goggles we used to use in the Army back in the 90's. They came with a headstrap harness which felt as though you were wearing some weird kind of sadistic S&M mask! Only thing missing was the chains and the ball gag!

There are lots of different types

AN/PVS-14

The list goes on as to all the different types used.

But the basic point to our enemies is:

"You can't hide........Death waits for you in the dark"

Our pilots in the FA-18C had some really nice HUD type NVG, the idea was that is they died (the goggles, not the pilot) or encountered a bright light the pilot could still see without having to try and pull the goggles off. They weighted about 1 lb. and cost crazy bucks from what I was told. They could also still see everything in the cockpit. The only problem was the projected vision was just a bit off form what you could see because the tubes were above your eyes, but it wasn’t bad enough to cause problems, I think I only was able to play with them a few times.

I can't find pictures of them on the net (yet) and my pictures I took seemed to have disappeared in the mail.
