Tue Jan 09, 2007 1:50 am

I just got a new flight jacket as an early birthday present and am wanting to put patches on it. Any suggestions on a good place to get patches? Thanks!! :D

Military surplus stores.

The CAF webpage.

E-bay

Military patch collectors pages.

Also, check the aviation magazines for ads and links.

Good luck!

Dunno what kind of patches you're looking for, but I handpaint patches on leather. If you'd like to see some examples, shoot me a PM...

I've seen all those, but I was just wondering if there was a place that was perhaps better to go to. Just curious as to where other people have gone. Thanks! :D

Heck, just join the military, you can get plenty of them depending on what branch, unit, etc.. you're assigned to

Through the years I've picked up dozens at the air shows I attend.

So, here's a question for all of you brainy types . . . :)

I had a friend yesterday gift me a green winter weight flight jacket which I was SUPER excited about... but I want to make sure I have things right before I start buying patches for it.

I know (it's sort of obvious) where the name plate goes, and if I am correct the US flag goes on the left arm?

The right side is really where I have the problem, there is velcro in two spots, one looks like a spot for a squadron patch but I am not sure. The other is a velcro spot of 3.5" x 3.5" any idea what goes there?

He also suggested that I buy my first set of wings for it... are there private pilot wings?

I hate to sound so ignorant about it, but this is the first flight jacket I have had, and I would just hate to put anything on it that:

1: Is in the incorrect place.
2: Is inappropriate for me to wear.

Etc... anyhow, if any of you can help or answer some questions that would be fantastic!

Thanks many times over!! :)

Maybe in the US it's like here in Canuckistan where you can't wear real Air Force wings and grades so you're not inducing anyone in thinking you're from the real air force. BUT, it is a but, I have USAF wings on my flying suit and nobody ever told me anything about them over here or across the border.

I have a CAF flight jacket and I only miss one patch now. I have the rank insignias, the wings (old and new) and a squadron patch (438 Sqn.) and I'm waiting to find one for the CH-146.

I'm wearing it in the following shot :

Yeah, that's the thing, I don't know about the wings... I don't know that I'd want military wings, since I am not in the military, that's why I wondered if there were private pilot wings. I've seen a display at LSFM that had tons of different wings in it, but I don't recall if they were all military, or what? I need to do some research, but haven't gotten around to it this morning yet.

THE BEST place is the Yakkes Foundation Online Shop, you can buy all the patches to look just like ME. ;)

A shop in the UK has very nice ones: http://www.eastmanleather.com/insignia.htm
And off course Ebay.
I don't know any other places.

Try flightjackets.com. They have patches for the jackets they make and will sell you just the patch if you find what you want.

Mudge the helpful :?
