Where can I find the OEM recommendations for propeller maintenance?
for a Hamilton Standard 12D40-305

In the US they are considered on Condition. Lube and Insp and repair when it's condition warrants.

Other countries have their own guidelines to follow. Ham Std hasn't supported this prop in decades. Various prop shops can probably give guidance.

TCDS provides no maintenance info or limits...

Make sure the counterweights are lubed, there is a tool to lube the outer bearing in the hub, it is like a clamp with grease zerks. Check for play at the blades in twist. If in flight you notice any unusual vibrations, get on the ground and have the counterweight bolts replaced. 3 of the 6s I took care of suffered bolt failures, 2 on take off, one had given some warning, the other did not, the other had a vibration and when the prop went to the shop and the bolts pulled, one was found to be cracked. There is no way to inspect the bolts except by removing them, but they cannot be reinstalled as they are installed then drilled.

You can get the Operation, Service, & Overhaul Manual for these props from Lance.

I found out that propellers installed on British registered aircraft are subject to CAA Generic Requirement No. 17. This dictates inspections every 6 years.

There is also a requirement to conduct propeller tracking after every prop replacement -

I know of no limits for this so wondered if anyone else has done this - and what is considered acceptable for a Harvard's Hamilton Standard prop?

Forgive me if this is not relevant, but my copy of the Hamilton Standard Counterweight Propellers Service Manual No. 110D does list service inspection and maintenance schedules for 12D40 propellers, along with instructions and tools list. These are apparently based on the old Army-Navy maintenance schedules.

Others here have a better understanding of FAA and other countries requirements, but this might be a general guideline to start from. :|

Good spot Mustanger55. Totally relevant, thankyou.

I have been dealing with approved maintenance schemes which have adopted the other reqiurements , ususally relevant only if none was published by manufacturer. Sonmething for me to follow up on.
