Would like to aquire a spare tail wheel for our plane. Can't use 12" wheels, as tyre won't pass the fork. Have parts for trade if interested. Thanks. |

You should state what size is the wheel. |

Must be a 10" round tyre. Can't fit any 12" wheels. It's a 1942 Noorduyn,Canada built plane with a tail steering system different than the US one. Sorry, what means "SC"? |

I'd have to look up some parts. I believe the Navy did a steering engage/disengage steering with a handle mounted in the cockpit near the throttle. No NAA drawings I can find for this. Then there is the G model stick position steering engagement system. The tailwheel size depends on the yoke post installed as the axel might be different dia as well. What part numbers for the wheel you are looking for? My SNJ-3/AT-6A parts listing shows Govt Furnished 10" tailwheel spec #25272 FYI The Strut assy for the tailwheel lists 77-34102 or Bendix 53895. The Post Assy lists 38G641-70 or Bendix 55580. I've seen some 10" wheels listed on ebay from time to time. You could also check Barstormers.com |

Thanks for the infos Rich. Will watch for AT-6 and SNJ wheels on the web. If no luck, I found 2 Swiss AF Morane-Saulnier 406 fighter tailwheels which look similar on one side and I meight be able to modify. They use the same tire than the AT-16. |

Just to finnish this topic: Found such a 10" wheel at Jay Wisler in Tampa. It was NOS and I could buy it for a very reasonable price. These are the same as used on BT-13's. |

If you need more tires in the future, Desser stocks three styles of 10" tailwheels. SC with no tread, SC with ribbed tread and square shoulder. http://www.desser.com/store/products/10 ... -TIRE.html http://www.desser.com/store/products/10 ... -TIRE.html http://www.desser.com/store/products/10 ... -TIRE.html From past experience with one of our Mk II's, I would shy away from the square shouldered tire. (the last one we got of that style was made in China and the quality wasn't the best...didn't last a season) ![]() |

[url][URL=http://s871.photobucket.com/user/bobATL/media/Warbird%20parts/IMG_1562.jpg.html] ![]() I used to have a large number of Hayes/Goodrich 10.50 tailwheels that the RCAF had removed from Harvards and tagged for repair. Dimensionally they looked like 10.00 tailwheels so they would have been able to use 10.00SC tires. Does anyone know if the 10.50 TW was peculiar to RCAF or ? |
