Post subject:  Canopy restoration?

Hello all,

When reassembling the canopy on the T-6, in my case the Yale it is calling for the use of AN450 tubular rivets which appear to just pin the assembly together so if needed to replace the windows you are not damaging the holes from the enlarging by using standard AN470 rivets when bucked. What is everyone else doing in this matter when reassembling the canopy?

I know that the AN450 rivets were superseded by MS16535, and also is there any trick to bucking them?

Thank You

Patrick

I have broken down many T-6 canopies and none of those rivets were tubular. I can't say that the original assembly did/did not expand the hole, but I can say that the rivets were a #@$%& to get out! I haven't reassembled any, but I would have guessed squeezing versus bucking. Hopefully Chuck Wahl will see your post and comment, or send him a pm. He did a beautiful job rebuilding his so he has specific experience. He is extremeley busy but took the time to educate me on a question I contacted him on. Great guy in my experience.
