Mystery Turret

Anyone know what type of turret this is? It was included in an inventory of Emerson Electric Mfg Turret Division parts that our museum has acquired. This my first try with Photobucket so let's see what happens. If these images need to be downsized, please let me know.

I'll take a stab at it....
Some kind of radar or photo recon "pod" that replaces the standard ball turret in a B-17 or -24?
I seem to recall seeing pics of some sort of dome mounted in the ball turret position of a B-17, was it a radar unit?

Rob,
I've always assumed that this thing had guns in it at one time. Maybe I should take a better look. I know that some B-17 had other "devices" in place of the ball turret and the collection of parts in this inventory is loaded with small ball turret parts. I'll try and find some data plates on the electric motors, maybe they will give me some idea of a mfg date. Thanks,
