I know this is a longshot, but I'm looking for an Icom OPC-499 headset adaptor, which will allow me to use my David Clark headset with my A21 handheld. The various internet pilot supply shops have them (or copies) for $40-$50, but I'm hoping to procure one "on the cheap".

Just buy an 1/8" three-way male plug for the ICOM and a 1/4" female three-way jack for your David Clark and connect them.

Expect it would cost less than $10 and less than an hour with your solder gun.

Not quite that simple, Art. I need transmit capability, too.

I'm an electrical enginer by trade, and I'm certainly capable of building my own. I'm hoping to find one that somebody doesn't need. If I can't find one cheap, I'll build one. I'll need these parts:

3.5mm 3-circuit plug (for recv audio)
2.5mm 3-circuit plug (for mic and PTT)
.206" 3-circuit inline jack (for boom mic)
1/4" 2-circuit inline jack (for monaural earphones)
1/4" 2-circuit inline jack (for PTT)
Suitable wire, insulation, etc.

The .206" 3-circuit inline jack is a little hard to find, but I have found a few on the internet. With postage, the best price I've found will be about $12.00, and that's for a cheap Chinese-made Philmore part.

So... if anybody has an Icom OPC-499 they wanna part with cheap, please let me know.

Ok Dean, my setup was much more simple.

It is an ICOM IC-A20 #5 s/n53333 and has a Jack on top labeled "SP" which was what I made the 1/4" to 1/8th" patch plug for. It worked for the DC and there is also a smaller Jack marked "MIC", but don't think I ever did anything for that.

Don't know if it would work with PTT and just used the built-in Microphone and Transmit button on the Radio.

It was just the reception that I was wanting to hear better while flying with the headset and then it was used mostly for backup to Aircraft Radios.

It got it's most use on the ramp for Clearance Delivery and no headset was needed for that.

Hope someone finds an Icom OPC-499 for you.

Which is why I'm hoping to find one cheap! (and if not, I'll build one)
