Can anyone tell me where I might find valve cover gaskets for a V-1650-9 Merlin? Also I'm having trouble finding out what the thread pitch on this engine. I think it's British Standard but can't tell for sure. Thanks Curt |

Rocker cover gaskets can be purchased from Vintage V-12's for approximately $20.00 US each. Phone # 661-822-3112. Make sure that you have a -9 head and not transport heads & banks on a -9 case! The thread pitch is Wentworth, British Standard Fine and American Standard on your -9 Packard Merlin. Good Luck! |

Post subject: | British Threads |
This message is quite old I see, thought I would through in my 2 bits anyhow. All Packard and Rolls engine's (aircraft) use BSF threads and hardware sizing. BSF, British Standard Fine and Whitworth threads are 2 different threads. They are like the american USS and SAE, BSF is the fine thread and Whitworth is the coarse and they are not interchangable. A lot of tools you can purchase have both sizings on them, BSF & WW. An example is 3/16 WW is the same size as 1/4 BS. An example of thread pitch is 1/4 BSF is 26 TPI with a 55* pitch, and 1/4 SAE is 28 TPI with a 60* pitch. I believe 1/4 WW is 22 TPI, but still with 55* pitch. All of the hardware on Merlins is BSF. The fellow that originated this message was looking for gaskets, I can also provide gaskets for Merlins. You can post a request or e-mail me. sparrow@direcway.com Thanks, Sparrow |

sparrow@direcway.com Thanks, Sparrow I know this is off topic, but, Hi Sparrow! Welcome to the board. I noticed your email address and it looked like another one I saw today in a mag. You wouldn't have anything to do with a Buchon? I saw it a Salinas and it's beautiful. |

I was involved in the build up of the engine for that airplane and still work on it occasionally. Harold is a friend of mine and he currently has the airplane for sale. Don't know if he has had any offers or anything of that nature. We shall see. Sparrow |
