T-33 wheel o-rings

Thu Jun 26, 2008 9:16 am

:prayer: First of all I wish to thank everybody for all the help I have been given on this site; it's been invaluable to me as someone new to working with old military aircraft for our museum. www.indianamilitarymuseum.org
We have got some good used tires for our T-33 and need the large wheel 0-rings that seal the 2 wheel half’s so air doesn’t leak out of the tubeless tires. I've looked on the net but can find nowhere that I can get two of them (for the mains). Do any of you more experienced people out there have a source for these?

Frank: If this is going to be just for static use, just make them. Any place that deals with industrial seals and gaskets should have the correct diameter bulk stock. I had to make a couple for the B-58 that is down at LSFM when we put new tires on all the wheels long years ago. It takes about five minuets to make each o'ring, but let the glue cure for an hour or two prior to putting air pressure on the reassembled rims.

If you are going to fly them, Dixie AirParts down in San Antonio probably has them.

BTW... a little glycerin rubbed on them not only helps keep them in place during assembly, but helps keep them lubed up and supple.

Frank,
We're using T33 wheels on our F86 and are using tubes. Haven't had a problem with them. This might be an option for you if you can't find o-rings. I can give you the size of the tube if you need it.
