since there are so many B-17's and the B-17 Registry is currenly undergoing overhaul, I figure that this a/c desrves its own section.

New B-17 book. A Bomber Crew Mystery

Sat Jun 04, 2016 6:25 am

Just to let B-17 enthusiasts out there know that my new book 'A Bomber Crew Mystery - The Forgotten Heroes of 388th bombardment Group' is published in the UK 30th June 2016 and is available on amazon Uk as a pre-order. (PEN & Sword publishing)

This is the story of how I found an old wine cooler engraved as a trophy in an Edinburgh (Scotland) antiques shop in May 2014. It was engraved 'Outstanding Crew of the Month - 388th Bombardment Group and listed 2 B-17 crews, one for August 1944 led by Dong Ong, and the other September 1944 led by Johnnie Colburn. I set out to find what had happened to these men, if they survived, and why the trophy was awarded to them. It was a detailed but rewarding search and the book gives a snapshot of life and aerial warfare in 1944.

I'm always interested in hearing more from 388th members and their families. If you have any connection to the Ong and Colburn crews I want to know!
