This area is for fighters

Hi, I am currently stationed out of Sigonella, Sicily. Back in 2008, timeframe, an Italian fisherman was fortunate enough to have snagged his nets on a WWII fighter plane. The following pictures are all that I have of this " Warbird " when it was extracted from its watery resting place.
Over the past three years, the plane has since been moved around and turned into and classified as " scrap metal ". It is BEYOND any form of reconditioning or refurbishing and looks NOTHING like the pictures that I have. I was able to pull the two 20mm cannons off of it to hopefully have them cleaned up (sandblasted) and put on display for the entire base to view. But my main problem is that nobody took any interest in this plane since it was pulled out of the water and noone has any information as to which type of plane it is.
Can anyone please help me?

P.S. I am having issues uploading the photos. If anyone is interested, I can email them to you. Thanks!

Rob,
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR THE LINKS! It is the same bird! I was able to look back over the previous conversations shortly after the bird was discovered and was thrilled with the feedback! Thanks again, you guys totally rock!
Also, I am an ex-Airdale! Was an " AZ " for 11 years prior to converting over to MA back in 2005. Helo's was my thing! Was with HS-11 ('94-'98), COMHSLWINGLANT ('98-"01) and HS-7 ('01-'05). Man do I miss that realm of the Navy!!!!! Thanks again!
Jason
