Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

Looks like the AC-47 may be here:

38 56 36.00 N 95 40 30.00 W

There's a Constellation, an EC-121-T, at:

38 56 29.00 N 95 40 37.00 W

that's said to belong to the Combat Air Museum. Is that the same organization?

It looks like there are some helos close by. What are they?

I haven't tried to document all of the aviation sites in Kansas, but I have captured the Forbes sites mentioned here...

Mike:

These helos are in the grounds of the Kansas National Guard Museum.

The EC-121 is outside the Combat Air Museum's main hangar, and next door there is a KSNG outfit; back in 2001 they had helicopters (UH-60s), but last weekend when I was there, I did not see any helos.

Mike,

The McConnell AFB Static Park, has these:

F-105 62-253
F-100 54-1993
F-84 71513 (straight wing)
F-80 45-8612 "City of Wichita"

There is also a B-47 and a KC-135, but those are inside the fence, on the base proper, and I could not get a good shot of them back in 2001.

Saludos,
'

Just to clarify... The airpark is accessible to the public. The two gate guards are not accessible to the public. Correct?

The KC-135 is the first production 135. It can be seen just inside the fence by the gate at McConnell. When it is dark the wing nav lights are on and there is a glow in the cockpit lights. Looks cool.

Mike, my information is way out of date. Last time I was in Wichita was November 2001.

The KC and the B-52 were not located in the static park, but inside and near one of the gates, but I did not even try to get shots since it was shortly after 9/11.

Thus, I wouldn't know about their accessibility status.

Saludos,

Tulio

ImageAnd this B-52 was near the Kansas Air Musuem. The park if I remember right the park is just inside the main gate. We parked the car at the gate and walked to the planes. This was in late Sept 2001

Mike:

Late PM yesterday, I drove by McConnell AFB's East gate (Rock Road) and saw again the KC-135 and the B-47, plus an F-105 on a stick, that I did not recall from my previous visit in 2001.

For the locator, these are South of Pawnee, on Rock Road, probably 1/4 of a mile or so.

Saludos,

Tulio

Tulio, did you get to see "Doc"? The last time I was there I only was on the West side. I didn't know about the gate guards on the East side. Learn something new all the time.
