It didn't seem like it was going anywhere – and it isn't. They pulled all morning and decided it was too stuck to keep trying. And this was with the highest of high tides to help.

I don't think they've figured it out yet. Highest tide of the year, they dredged around the stern, they emptied the ballast tanks.
They had 5 tugs pulling away at one point churning up the river. They said it moved about 5 feet.

It was quite a scene. Some of those tugs were monstrous. When the pleasure boats drifted away a little after 10:30 it was clear the game was up. More dredging and another try asap is likely the game plan.

I didn't see/hear any flyovers. Have those been scrubbed also?

Some carriers used to run up the aircraft on deck and use their thrust to help move the ship. Too bad the SR-71 is inoperable...

I was in a perfect spot at the north end of Liberty State Park
right across from Ground Zero. They stopped trying to pull it out
when they started losing the tide. Lots of news choppers and
Coast Guard but that was all I saw flying over the river.

Bill

Looking north, tug heading back down river after move canceled.

Time to start removing anything that can be un-bolted.
The Oriskany (sp?)had a much shallower draft (hope that's the right terminology) when they were through, but that was pretty extreme--some rather large holes in her at that point.
I haven't been following this, are the aircraft still on board the Intrepid? Would offloading them help? Or is that just the proverbial drop in a 36,000-ton bucket?

The aircraft are still aboard. They were talking about draining the pipes throughout the carrier – that doesn't seem like it would do much, but who knows. From my vantage poimt on West 36th Street, I could just see one of the tugs pulling. And pulling.

As Chief Brody said, "You're gonna need a bigger boat!"

Simple problem, simple solution:

Hillary is waaaaay too heavy and is on the starboard.

Move her (use Tilly) to port, and when the vessel is unstuck, move her aft and past center, so that the Intrepid can ride like a speed boat.

Just get all the politicians below decks, go to full watertight conditions, then tell them it's a televised debate.

All the hot air will have that ship riding like a hydrofoil in no time.

Why would they give a refund, Jack?

They got on the ship, they untied the ship, they moved the ship! The buyer also got to spend the better part of the day on the ship.

What else were they supposed to get ?
