March Field Air Museum in Riverside proudly announces the arrival of the Liberty Bell on Thursday, September 17, 2004 until Sept. 23, 2004!
This is the original 18th c. replica and sister of the famous Liberty Bell in Washington DC. (Yes, there were two of them cast at the same time). It travels around the country and we are fortunate to have it on display for one week.
I would like to invite any Continental Army and Rev War re-enactors or units to set up a small camp on the grass in our Court of Honor on that Saturday or Sunday, September 18 or 19, 2004.
The Court of Honor displays a wall with large granite engraved plaques of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the original 12 Bill of Rights, Washington’s letters, the Gettysburg Address and many, many others. The Liberty Bell will be displayed inside the museum for security reasons. A small display on the 18th c. use of balloons in the military will also accompany the bell, as we are an air museum.
Anyone with a Civil War Union Signal Corps uniform or impression is also a possibility for a small camp or station, as the U.S. Balloon Corps was officially commissioned in 1861.
