Sea Fury CF-VAN

I was recently looking at a decal for a 1/48 plastic model. It was of Sea Fury CF-VAN before Mike Carroll put the famous flame pattern on it. It was supposedly red with a thick yellow stripe at the time. Did it wear those colors after Carroll bought it? Does anyone have a photo of the a/c in this guise?

TJ--

I've seen a pic of that, yes...but can't remember where! The early-civil pix of WG567/CF-VAN I do remember for sure are those on Eric's website (airic.ca), selected from his dad's collection, and apparently showing the basic RCN double-grey with no markings, just "CF-VAN" on the sides and (iirc) on the wings--faintly like the current Sandy Thomson bird, actually.

A fond fantasy of mine has me acquiring WG567 and having her refinished at Sky Harbour in her 50s RCN double-grey "NAVY:133" scheme, before or after re-engining with a Centaurus 18; then she goes home (on loan from me) to the museum at Shearwater NS. As a nod to her racing history and that, er, unforgettable paintjob, on the nose would be the name "Old Flame"...and she'd go back onto the Canadian register, as CF-VAN again, of course! Now for that Super-7 or 6/49 win, eh...
