After a busy air show season I got quite far behind in processing and posting my photos. On top of that I was researching and writing an article for the magazine of the Air Force Association of Canada. It will be the feature article in the Winter issue. Of course being no where near retirement means my spare time is limited, hence I was way behind with posting my photos, until now. This is a summary of what has been uploaded today.

In August I attended a nice little air show at the Canada Aviation Museum called the Classic Air Rallye. I was there as a volunteer for Vintage Wings and so did not spend the entire day taking photos, but it did give me some good opportunities that the paying attendees did not get, and as a bonus I got some A2A photos of the Tiger Moth and the Waco Taperwing. You can find the photos in my Webshots album at…

I also spent a few days at Vintage Wings and one of the benefits of hanging out there is being in a position to view movements at the Gatineau airport. You can find a few examples here…

As a volunteer for Vintage Wings I have been given some great opportunities to photograph the aircraft. The following cover new photos posted in my Vintage Wings albums.

If you have never visited Vintage Wings and would like to see what others have been talking about, you can view pictures of the facility at…

note: I have been holding back some of the good shots for a future article in Air Force magazine.

September 2nd was the last official Fly Day of the season. We tried to get as many interesting vehicle out for this event and succeeded. The Vintage Wings facility and ramp was filled with vintage wings, vintage fire trucks, vintage cars and vintage motorcycles. What a day! You can find the pictures in the visitors album starting with this one…

The highlight of the season for me was the practice day for the Battle of Britain Commemorative Flight. It was my first flight in a Lancaster. You can find my pics of Lancaster (inside and out) as well as the Hurricane, Spitfire and Mustang in formation at…

For future reference if you are looking for Vintage Wings related pictures you can go to the following page for links to all of the albums…

Many of the recent pictures still need titles and captions. Those will be added in the coming weeks.

Looking forward to reading your comments.

As always Mike, thanks for generously sharing your photos. Especially liked the on-board, in-the-air shots of/from the Lancaster. I envy you hearing those 4 Merlins singing away in-flight mere meter's from your ears.

It was a very strange sensation. As a warbird nut it is the kind of thing you dream about, but figure you will never have the opportunity, and there I was. Those moments were very surreal. I am glad I took photos, otherwise I may not have believed myself!

That P-51 and Spit shot from the Lanc is your best to date mate.

I'm officially and totally jealous.

I threw out about 99% of the shots right off the top, and even the ones I got were not great. As I was sorting them initially it was looking like I wouldn't have anything worthwhile and I felt sick. The crew warned me there are lots of vibrations in the airframe and not to grab hold of anything as that would transfer them into the camera. The were not kidding!!! On top of that I was standing on my toes to take pictures out of the astrodome which is made of curved "glass" with many inperfections in it. So here I am, up on my toes swaying around trying to get pictures... I just kept shooting hoping that quantity was going to make up for the quality issue, and it barely did. I took so many shots I drained the two batteries in the vertical grip in about 1/2 hour. All summer I would walk around at an airshow and not take the batteries down to the half way point! What is really disappointing is the shots I missed. I had plenty of time to compose the shots and was having fun with it, but those darn vibrations!!! Oh well, the experience was a thrill. I also can't say enough to express the class act that the Canadian Warplane Heritage is. Along with Vintage Wings what a great pair of crews!

Mike
