Hi all
last weekend saw the Air Mollis 2006 airshow and the Hunter Meet 2006 here at former military airfield Mollis in Switzerland.
A great event - the weather was bad throughout the weekend though, Sunday was enormeously wet.....
Due to the special topography (Mollis is in a valley surrounded by high mountains), and the low and ever-changing cloud-base, the routines were very special and unique.
Some planes couldn't make it to the show because of the weather or technical hiccups, such as a Swedish Hunter, the breitling Super Connie, the JAF B-25 "Russel's Raiders" HB-RDE, and the Duxford (England) based Bearcat. On the positive side we had 9 airworthy civil hunters (5 from Switzerland and 4 from the UK) participating; Saturday saw displays of the Patrouille Suisse with their F-5E's, the Breitling Team with their L-39's, and lots of other unique formations (Hunters with F/A-18, 5 Pilatus P-3's, a mixed bag of Biplanes and other vintage models...) and displays of the latest Switzerland built trainer Pilatus PC-21, a Swiss AF Super-Puma, various aerobatic planes, both modern and vintage.....etc. etc.
The Swiss Hunters also showed an awesome 4-ship fighter-bomber routine, something you have to see to believe.
Sunday also saw the reunion of over 150 former Hunter-pilots; their stories could fill whole libraries.
Also worth mentioning is the Switzerland based Reenactment group (US Army & USAAF) - their camp with tents, machinery, vehicles, etc. was just great, and their attention to details is impeccable.
here a few impressions:
enjoy !
