Hypothetically, say I located a P-51 wreck in a lake here in the States. Are their any current USAF restrictions on these planes? The US Navy is of course intolerable of such things, but as I recall the USAF no longer claims ownership of any aircraft lost prior to the date when their records were lost to a fire (mid-1950's?).

Can someone set me straight on the facts here? How about the various WWII bombers and fighters that have been recovered here in the States over the last two or three decades. What type of hoops did those recoverers have to jump through to establish ownership and possession of those planes?
