Reading the posts of the frankenracer ideas got me thinking about what I might have seen at one time. Wasent there a P-51 that did have a Rolls Royce Dart engine in it?????? I think I had seen it on a old Air Classics???? Anybody rememeber and where is it now if it did exist?????

The performance was reportedly phenomenal when compared to the Merlin-powered Mustang -- great acceleration, climb performance, and speed. The low points were the instability caused by the Dart installation (see the discussion in the other thread) and the very poor visibility caused by the long snout.

It was this great performance that solidified Dave Lindsay's belief in what would become the Piper Enforcer concept.

The CAC Mustang A68-187 was fitted in the early 70s with a Rolls Royce Dart sourced from a Vickers Viscount. It was allocated the rather appropriate registration VH-UFO but never took to the skies in this configuration.
It was de-converted back to Merlin power and exported to the USA were it flies today as N50FS "SU SU II"
