Anyone already planning a WIX gathering at Oshkosh this year?

Is anyone compiling a list and location? I would like to join and hook up with some WIXer's this year, as last year I was late getting there.

I'm planning Thursday through Sunday and bringing an old flyguy from Pennsylvania with me. Pick a time, place, and a day then let everyone who can make it commit.

Living close means I pick and choose according to the weather...usually do Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Don't forget, no warbird airshow on Thursday.

It was a good idea, it just didn't work.

I'm in the same boat as Dan...I only live about 2 hours away so I'll probably wait and pick a day when the weather looks the best.

On a side note...is there any info out yet for the warbird airshow events. I checked the EAA website and didn't find anything. Thanks!

I will be there all week volunteering in the Warbirds Area and would love to catch up with the posters and lurkers on WIX.

Howdy all. I will be there all week and will be working at the lost and found/information building just south of the old tower. Come by and say hi.

Expect 'more of the same', like last year. 'whatever we got' on Monday, usually a pretty good show on Tuesday, Mustangs show off on Wed, Thursday, no show, because that's 'forum' day - the type groups, etc spend the day in safety and informational meetings, and we thought to not disrupt that by asking for airshow participation, especially since the Thursday show has traditionally been 'short' - take off, two passes, land. Friday and Saturday are supposed to be the 'big' shows... Friday should be good, by Saturday we have a lot who are departing... and if they haven't left before, they'll depart from the show. A year ago, we launched 8 aircraft out of 'Area 51', and recovered none... they all did 'air departures'

Wow, wix has a few folks from WI these days.. I plan on being up for
at least 3-4 days.. definitely friday/saturday and probably tues/wed
as well... but the work schedule will have to play in there somewhere..
I too hope to catch up with you folks...

I work at the AirVenture Museum, so I'll be here all week! If you visit the Warbirds area (and I know you all will), across from the yellow Zaug's food building, which is the only place in Warbirds serving food, you'll see a 10'x10' small canopy tent - that is where I'll be doing most of my work signing up veterans to be interviewed for EAA's Timeless Voices of Aviation oral history program.

I'm going to have a couple of coolers of bottled water for my volunteers, and if you stop by and say you're from WIX we'll give you a bottle. You're also welcome to hang out there for the air show if you would like - we have a pretty good view of the warbird ramp.

Another idea - I live in an EAA rental house right at the corner of Poberezny Rd (the frontage road to Hwy 41 which comes straight in to Oshkosh, and the road that you get off on to come to AirVenture) and Waukau Ave (which runs directly up to the FAA tower on the field) - you can see the house from the pole-mounted F-86. If anyone is interested, I'd be willing to host a WIXer meet & greet barbeque on Friday or Saturday night after the show (if I can sweet-talk my wife into it, which shouldn't be too hard!).

I just received an EAA Hotline email which says:



Am I going prematurely senile or does someone at EAA have a short memory? I thought the Lanc went to OSH a couple of times between when it was restored and the early 90s when CWH started keeping it close to home.

Unfortunate timing on the "unprecedented bomber collection" part also.

Hmm, don't know - I haven't worked there long enough to know, but I can check and find out if the Lanc has been here before. As for the "unfortunate timing" part - why is that? Because of FIFI's engine problems?

You are correct, August; the article is incorrect. The Lanc has been to OSH already--I'd like to say 1989. Somewhere I have a photo of my (then) new bride in front of it.

Chances are you're still going senile, though.
