I will be driving through central Wisconsin this coming weekend. I was wondering if anyone knew how to get permission to visit the aircraft on display at Volk Field. TIA

You're right, the way military installations are tight as drums nowadays, give 'em a jingle first.

I don't think you don't need to call anybody, just pull up to the gate and say that you want to visit the museum. They'll give you a laminated pass to put on your dash.

I was just there two or three weeks ago. I actually didn't realize that I would be passing right by there, and I had absolutely no trouble getting in. The only problem is that the guards at the gate don't want you driving around to see all the aircraft, they just want you to go straight to the museum. However, the people at the museum itself will give you a guidebook to the aircraft on outside display, and tell you to go and take a look. Some cool planes on display, and it's located in an area with some of the most beautiful scenery in the country.

Since it doesn't say it on the site, their hours of operation are Wed-Sat 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Here's a list of the aircraft on display:
F-84F, A-10A, KC-97L, F-100C, F-102A, TF-102, F-4C, F-105, A-7 II, F-86 H, P-51D, AH-1, UH-1.

They also have a bunch of tanks and artillery on display.
