It was my father's first 51 and flew it's last combat mission at the hands of Al White on August 3, 1944 - after that it never flew another combat mission. The 355FG hsitories are silent on what became of this ship and I wonder if it went to one of the other 'converting' FG's at this time or was sent to 8th AF HQ as a hack?
Martin helped my find that this ship was destroyed as salvage on 20 September, 1945. AFHRA confirms that it came into ETO on 8 December, 1943 and departed on 20 September.
Does anyone a.) know it's history after August 1944 or b.) have a picture of it? I want to build a model of this ship from a scale perspective but can't qualify w/o the doc's and I have are cockpit shots.
